On the Gulf of Oman on the eastern coasts of the United Arab Emirates, a suspended Khor Fakkan is most well known as a main container shipping port; there are almost always ships facing up to load, unload or refuel.

It is set on the attractive bay of Khorfakkan, its meaning is “Creek of Two Jaws”. Khorfakkan is in the ownership to the Emirate of Sharjah but is geographically enclosed by the emirate of Fujairah. It is the only natural deep-sea harbor in the area. History of Khorfakkan has a long history of human ages. On the east coast of the United Arab Emirates In 1580 the Venetian jeweler Gasparo Balbi noted “Chorf” in a list of places, which is considered by history writers to specify Khorfakkan. a fort at Khorfakkan was built by the Portuguese. The log book of the Dutch vessel the Meerkat references this fort and another one, relating “Gorfacan” with about 200 houses constructed from date branches, nearby the beach. It mentions to a triangular Portuguese fortress on the northern side, in ruins, and a fortress on a hill on the southern side, also in ruins, without barracks or armaments. As well as date palms, the Meerkats log also mentions fig trees, melons, watermelons and myrrh. It notes several wells with “good and fresh water” used for irrigation and house hold.
